Although traditional portraits are often considered to be head and shoulders poses or faces this project draws on the origin of the word, which is derived from the French 'portraire' meaning to 'portray'. It focuses on badges and insignia used in the military to define identity, despite uniformity there are many differences from one regiment and another and one individual and another.
