Is Such That Mortals Tremble at the Sight
This body of work is a response to my relationship with the British landscape and explores the idea of ‘photographs never taken’. Each image is inspired by a memory of a missed opportunity. Memory is inherently inaccurate, these images representative of this, are therefore constructions, vague recollections of remembered scenes.
I am fascinated by the relationship between the Sublime, the Beautiful and the Picturesque. This work is primarily concerned with the Sublime however my approach to landscape photography has elements of all three. I am influenced by eighteenth century landscape painting and I have crafted a series of images that incorporate traditional landscape painting conventions with contemporary photographic techniques.
Beauty can be measured but the Sublime is measureless. Combining fascination, pleasure and fear these images inspire awe and evoke intense emotion through the experience of nature’s vastness and grandeur.
