Topographical Views of the Peak District
This work explores the geography and the topography of the Peak District National Park and it is intended to challenge the viewer to imagine the landscape by viewing sections of Ordnance Survey maps. I have chosen to deny the viewer a realistic picture of these areas in an attempt to force an imaginative response, to make the viewer analyse the information given to create an image in their own mind of how the landscape appears in reality. I have included textual descriptions of the history and geography of the areas to assist the viewer to create the images. The pieces are displayed orientated in the direction that I believe the most pleasing view of these locations is to be found. This work requires the viewer not just to see the images but to also engage with them in a way that is not often required with traditional landscape art. Every viewers response will be different.
